We built the Canvas AI checker students actually needed
Not another tool built for administrators to catch students. A tool built so students can check their own work — privately, instantly, before it matters.
Built in 2024 to close a gap no one else was filling
Canvas LMS has become the backbone of academic life for millions of students. When AI writing tools went mainstream, institutions rushed to add detection to their workflows — but the tools they adopted were built for educators, not learners.
Students were left in the dark. They had no way to know if their genuine writing might trigger a false positive. ESL writers were being flagged for writing that was accurate, but structured differently. And no one was offering a private self-check students could run before submitting.
We built Canvas AI Checker to change that. A tool you can use before you hit submit — no account, no logging, no record of what you pasted. Just a score and the clarity to act on it.
Three principles we don’t compromise on
Every design decision, every feature, every policy comes back to these three commitments.
Student Fairness
Detection tools should never be weaponized against students without context. We build for self-checking first — giving learners the chance to understand and correct before submitting, not after being accused.
ESL Protection
Non-native English writers are disproportionately flagged by blunt detection tools. Our model is calibrated to reduce ESL false positives, and we’re transparent about where our tool’s limits lie.
Privacy First
Nothing you submit is stored. No accounts. No history. No connection between your identity and your scan results. What you check stays between you and your browser session.
AI models we detect
Our detection engine is trained to identify patterns from all major AI writing tools in academic use today.
